Biography

Mr. Hennessey is the chairperson of the firm’s eminent domain/valuation litigation group and has specialized in eminent domain litigation for more than 35 years. During that time, he has handled nearly 500 condemnation and inverse condemnation matters on behalf of corporate and individual property and business owners. Those eminent domain cases have involved a wide spectrum of property and business types including raw land, master plan developments, industrial developments, office buildings, apartment complexes, mobile home parks, service stations, restaurants, medical and dental facilities, storage facilities, recreation facilities, farm, dairy and equestrian facilities.

Some of Mr. Hennessey’s more significant eminent domain cases include:

  • The taking of the landmark Lever Brothers soap facility in the City of Commerce, in which the total compensation awarded after a jury trial exceeded $20 million
  • Los Angeles Unified School District v. Meruelo Maddux Properties which resulted in a judgment of $50 million on behalf of our client
  • Chaffey Joint UHSD v. Intex Properties Inland Empire LP which resulted in a judgment in favor of our client in excess of $17 million
  • Temecula Valley USD v. Sheffield FV-II, LLC which resulted in a judgment in favor of our client in excess of $14 million
  • State of California v. La Cresta Investments, where the State paid in excess of $9 million for a partial taking of an apartment complex
  • State of California v. Los Angeles Athletic Club which resulted in a $4 million judgment for our client
  • City of La Mirada v. Roski which resulted in a judgment in excess of $2.3 million after the City had offered only $93,000 to take permanent and temporary easements along the perimeter of the property
